The Personal Care Group (PCG) provides a forum for BACS member companies supplying ingredients to the cosmetic and toiletry industry. The benefits of membership of the PCG include the provision of information and the opportunity to contribute to industry positions on relevant regulatory issues and, via seminars, updates on other topics of interest to the sector.
Information on regulatory matters is mainly accessed through BACS' membership of the European Federation for Cosmetic Ingredients (EFfCI), a trade association which represents the collective interests of European cosmetic ingredient manufacturers and distributors. BACS membership, with a seat on the EFfCI Board representing UK cosmetic ingredient suppliers, also allows PCG members to participate in EFFCI's activities, in particular the work of its Regulatory Affairs and Product Safety Committee. The PCG is the only BACS sector group which requires a subscription for membership, to contribute to the funding of BACS membership of EFfCI.
Seminars on other topics of interest to the sector are held typically twice a year, often jointly with other organisations such as the Society of Cosmetic Scientists (SCS). At each meeting several speakers from industry, government or academia give presentations on a selected topic. The themes of seminars, which are also open to companies that are not members of BACS, are wide-ranging, focusing on subjects as diverse as ingredient and formulated product advertising claims, speciality surfactant and polymeric ingredients for cosmetics, aspects of rheology and the application of green chemistry to the personal care sector.
